Frederick Palmer
 Devonshire Regiment

The Winkleigh census returns record only one entry relating to a Frederick Palmer, aged one on 1901, the son of John and Mary Palmer living at ‘Hanleys’ in the area near Penson Farm. John, aged 29, was a carter. There is no record of the family in 1911. Aged about 18 in 1917, it is possible that Frederick’s service would have been very short, unless of course he enlisted under-age.

No service documents for a Frederick Palmer in the Devonshire Regiment have survived. There are a number of medal cards relating to a Frederick or ‘Fredk’ Palmer who served in the Devonshire Regiment, but without knowing Frederick’s middle name or initial, we cannot identify the correct card or military number.
