Almost nothing is known at the present time of William Heathman, apart from his inclusion on the Roll of Honour in our church. The family name does not appear in the Winkleigh census for 1901 or 1911, although the name does appear in various villages in Devon. William’s military records were lost, with so many others, in the London blitz, and there are no pension records. His medal card, which gives us his number and confirms his service in the Devonshire regiment, shows that he was awarded the victory and British medals.
