WALK 1
Circular Walk from North Tawton via Bondleigh

Explorer map 113. Approx. 2hrs. Some gradual slopes. Dogs on leads through farmland.
01 From Winkleigh, take the A3124 towards North Tawton. At Redpost Cross turn left and continue for approx. 1 mile until you reach a small parking area on the left, on a bend. The Tarka Trail is signed.

02 Walking from the car park, follow the Tarka Trail sign and go over the left hand stile. Continue on the track, through the woodland following the Tarka Trail/Public Footpath sign. Go over one more stile and continue through the woodland.

03 At the next stile/gate, continue straight ahead, following the Public Footpath sign and the Tarka Trail arrow on a small post. Walk across the field following the bend in the river until you see a metal gate on your right. Go through the gate and keeping the river on your right, go across the field to another metal gate. Continue through this gate to the river and take the left hand track to Bondleigh (signed 1mile).

04 Continue on the track and up the green lane, past Highfield on the left. Follow the tarmac road past Wood Farm on the right until the staggered crossroads. Continue straight ahead following the sign to the Parish Church (signed 1/4 mile). At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead once again following the Parish Church sign.

05 Pass the church on your left, through a gate signed Public Footpath, and pass in front of a row of cottages, into the farmyard. Turn right (small sign on barn wall) and go through a metal gate. Continue straight ahead keeping the hedge to the right. Go through another metal gate and across the field following the line of the right hand hedge. Continue through the next gate to the road.

06 At the road, turn right and continue to Beare Lane junction. Turn left towards Bondleigh Bridge (signed NorthTawton). Just before the bridge turn right to Bondleigh Wood (signed 1/2 mile). Continue up to the crossroads and turn left back onto the Tarka Trail (unmetalled road), and retrace your steps down the green lane and back down to the river.

07 At the river, following the sign to North Tawton (2 miles) cross the bridge and follow the track ahead until you reach Yeo Farm. Continue straight ahead on the tarmac road. After approx. 1/4 mile, look out for the river on your right and a short stony path leading to it. Follow this path, cross the bridge and continue straight across the field towards the small wooden bridge on the far side. Go over the bridge, through the gate and turn left back into the car park.
