The Community Centre is located in Castle Street, on the South Side.

In January 2004 we were informed that Devon County Council wanted to dispose of the building!

Since then things have got very complicated. After many communications with various officials, it would appear that DCC cannot simply dispose of it as they still have not provided proof of their ownership. However in order for progress to be made the committee have decided to accept their decision. DCC did not realise how much the Community Centre was used, activities take place there most days of the week, infact footfall rate for 2006 was over 18,000 per annum.

As a result of a meeting in September 2005, DCC confirmed they still wished to dispose of the building and the next 12 months will see considerable discussion and they will need to obtain best value for the building which is currently suggested as £150,000 allied to a short lease. This is under discussion. A lottery bid has been written and submitted, by the current chairman, Roger Smith.

As a result of a recent government initiative the progress of transferring the ownership of the Community Centre for a nominal sum is a possibility.

The management committee formed a steering group to work with Dawn Eckhart, a Social Enterprise Worker from the Community Council of Devon to guide this project through.
