A public consultation workshop 'A Fresh Start for Winkleigh Airfield' will be held at the Community Centre in Winkleigh from 12.30 pm to 7pm on Friday the 25th April and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 26th of April. The purpose of the consultation workshop is to gather people's views and ideas. These will inform the preparation of a Site Development Brief for Winkleigh Airfield that will guide the type, scale and quality of future development. People will be invited to contribute to a vision for Winkleigh in 2020 and to share their ideas for the future of this important site within the Parish. At the workshop there will also be an opportunity to meet members of the team who are currently researching the project and to find out about how their work will develop over the next twelve months. The team would like to gather people's views on sustainable, community and economic development and understand what would benefit people living and working in the area. The team would welcome input from people of all ages. During the event local history and archaeology experts will be leading tours of the village. Refreshments will be available. Background Information: Torridge District Council has commissioned a multi disciplinary design team led by Cottrell and Vermeulen Architects to prepare the Site Development Brief (SDB) for this important site in consultation with the community. The SDB will be produced in parallel with the Local Development Framework (LDF) Core Strategy and expand upon policies for the redevelopment and restoration of the Airfield identified in the LDF, taking account of the role, function and needs of Winkleigh. Cottrell and Vermeulen Architects are known for their ambitious and sensitive work with communities that includes an award winning cardboard school. They have assembled a team (NEAT, Longboard Consulting, Buro Happold and Davis Langdon) with expertise in architecture and landscape, urban design, planning, sustainability, public consultation, transport and economic viability. Torridge District Council is leading the project with the help of the
Winkleigh Steering Group that includes members of Winkleigh Parish Council
and the Winkleigh Society.
